CARE JOBS
MEL COLEMAN INTERVIEW

A local solution from your local media partner...

Mel Coleman, one of our advisors...
Talk to us about the challenges the sector is facing…
We speak to local employers and authorities each and every day and have a strong understand of the pressures faced by the sector. There simply are not enough candidates to fill vacancies – and that’s from care assistants right through to management positions. Listening to the very specialist needs of the industry, we’re now able to offer a solution that will really help.
Why is the sector in this position?…
Clearly we live in a world of ageing population, something that will only continue to put more pressure on care. From our conversations with those in the profession, we know more needs to be done to ensure potential candidates understand working in care can be a long term rewarding career, it’s not just a stop gap. There are some preconceived ideas about what care means. The reality is you can help people of all ages and walks of life. It’s also about ensuring people keep their independence as much as possible. Hugely rewarding.
Who should look for a career in care?…
Anyone. It’s one of the most flexible careers there is. For Mums going back to work, it provides the flexibility to fit around school hours. For younger people it provides career opportunities due to the array of positions. Some very hands on, some in more strategic and managerial roles.
How is Archant Care Jobs helping ?…
In several ways. Firstly, it takes all of Archant’s trusted, popular platforms to provide a totally comprehensive approach. We can reach people at every touch point. On and offline. A mix of powerful display advertising and compelling content.
At the heart of Archant, we’re a storytelling business. So we enjoy creating content that helps and informs people, such as how to put together the best CV, interview techniques, a ‘day in the life of’ and ‘what care means to me?’. We strive to be a real voice for the care industry.
Secondly, we’re local and that means a lot. Our on-the-ground teams know the community and geography and that makes a practical difference. Someone who is working only a few hours a week isn’t going to want to commute. We have that knowledge which national jobs boards often don’t.
Thirdly, we can offer a very targeted solution that reaches people we know are actively interested in the care sector via our ‘Talent Tracker’.
Tell us more…
We use really clever digital technology to track the types of people looking for work in the care industry. They may be reading content to do with care, or actively searching for jobs. We build profiles of these types of people and then serve them with the right messages.
We can also take these messages beyond our own websites to wherever they head to online. They might be doing some shopping or booking a holiday. So you reach the right people in the right places with the right message – consistently.
